Yes. We are happy to arrange a rehearsal visit for prospective singers and their families. North Coast Singers welcomes students of all experience levels. Most new singers participate in a casual, low-pressure voice check and introductory meeting with a member of our artistic staff. This helps us learn about a student’s musical background, vocal development and interests so we can place them in the ensemble where they will thrive. No formal preparation is required.
Students are placed into ensembles based on age, vocal development, musical experience and readiness for each choir's level of repertoire and performance expectations. Our artistic staff works carefully to ensure every singer is placed in an ensemble where they can be challenged appropriately while continuing to build confidence and skills.
Rehearsals are held in Encinitas at 170 Calle Magdalena. Most ensembles rehearse once per week during the fall and spring seasons, making North Coast Singers an ideal after-school singing activity for busy families throughout North County San Diego. Current rehearsal locations, times and schedules can be found at www.NorthCoastSingers.com/Calendar or by contacting our staff.
Yes. North Coast Singers uses a sequential approach to music literacy that begins with helping students develop their ears and voices naturally. Singers first learn musical concepts intuitively through listening, singing and movement. As students progress, they use syllables and physical hand signs to understand pitch relationships, intervals and rhythm. Over time, this approach transitions into reading and interpreting sheet music with confidence and independence.
Most ensembles participate in multiple performances throughout the season.
These may include:
Two seasonal concerts
Community performances
Festivals, special events and choral collaborations
Touring opportunities for eligible ensembles
Performance schedules vary by choir, but families can expect regular opportunities to celebrate their singer’s progress and accomplishments.
Many families choose North Coast Singers because rehearsals fit well alongside sports, theater and other after-school activities. We understand that families have busy schedules and encourage open communication regarding conflicts. Choir participation teaches valuable time-management skills while allowing students to pursue multiple interests.
North Coast Singers welcomes students from throughout North County San Diego and surrounding communities. Member families have lived in Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Carmel Valley, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Vista and other surrounding areas.
